WORLD'S SYMPATHY FOR BOMB VICTIMS
World's sympathy for bomb victims
THERE has been a global outpouring of sympathy for the people of Omagh. An international Book of Condolences has been set up on the internet to capture world opinion. And the thoughts of people from countries all over the globe are being added hourly to an ever-growing list.
Global Gateway, the company behind the initiative, have pledged to pass on all the messages to every Northern Ireland Assembly member, the British and Irish governments and the people of Omagh.
The company's statement reads: "The decision has been taken both as a mark of respect to the victims, their families and the people of Omagh, as well as to give our international audience the opportunity to register their personal messages in response to Saturday's events.
"It is our sincere wish that the power of the Internet can be used in such a way over the coming days to send a huge international message of sympathy to those affected by the tragedy, as well as an overwhelming message of support for the peace process in Northern Ireland."
Thousands more messages from around the world have also been published in our own company website of the Belfast Telegraph.
Typical of most messages is this one from Gayla Klemett, USA: - "Mere words cannot express the sorrow and pain I feel for the families of this tragedy. My prayers, heart and soul are with you now. As I look into the eyes of my child I will remember your children. My heart cries for your pain and I send my most deepest prayers."
