Team stunned as news of carnage reaches terraces
OMAGH Town supporters stood in stunned silence as news of the carnage filtered through to their Premier League clash with Glentoran at the Oval. Speaking after their 2-0 defeat, Omagh Town's manager said: "You can't even talk about football at a time like this.
"It's horrendous news. We heard about the blast at 3.10pm - we kept it from the lads at half-time but at full-time we informed the entire team.
"When people lose their lives, sport becomes totally irrelevant. To be honest, many of our squad are numb with shock."
Even by half-time, the moods in the stands had turned markedly sombre, with fans glued to their transistor radios, desperate for news from Omagh.
Dreadful
Glentoran boss Roy Coyle said: "Let's be honest, the news about the bomb has completely overshadowed anything here.
A local journalist from the town commented:
"My wife is OK and so are the rest of the family, as far as I know. But it's dreadful. We can't get through to anyone on the phone."
Roy McCreadie added: "We were ringing nonstop, but there's no way through. I just hope everyone at home is all right."
