THE SCUM who butchered innocent men, women and children at Omagh yesterday have nothing to offer this society.
That's why they must be ruthlessly hounded down and given the stiffest sentences the law permits - with no promises of early release.
Northern Ireland had earnestly prayed that these evil, vicious acts were a thing of the past. That killing, in the name of politics, had been consigned to the history books. But Omagh changed all that.
In a few terrifying seconds, the bombers plied their bloody trade with horrendous results, as families did the weekend shopping.
Thereby, shattering hopes that a new political accommodation could be reached, while violence was held in check.
The Good Friday agreement had many enemies.
However, no one thought they had the firepower to bring death and injury on such a frightening scale.
But they did, and, as a result. Mo Mowlam has a major security crisis on her hands.
She must now order a tough crackdown on the dissident republicans, who are hell bent on bringing this country to its knees.
Ample warnings of their evil intent was given - now she must act decisively to bring their damnable terror campaign to an end.
Political niceties have to be set aside. These pathological killers must feel the full weight of the security forces bearing down on them and their reprehensible activities. If the Secretary of State fails to respond effectively, she will invite the wrath of Ulster's law abiding citizens, both Protestants and Catholics. In such circumstances, others may well step forward to fill the void with more senseless bloodletting - plunging the province further into a spiral of utter despair.
Act now, Dr Mowlam - you owe that much to the innocents whose lives were extinguished in Omagh yesterday.
