THE Omagh bombing is the worst single outrage, in terms of sheer numbers, to happen in the violent history of Northern Ireland.
And that awful mantle comes on top of an infamous league table of terrible bombing atrocities here, in Britain and in the Republic of Ireland.
December 4 1971 - 15 people died when the UVF bombed McGurk's Bar in Belfast.
July 21 1972 - Bloody Friday in Belfast, when eleven people were killed and 130 injured after 26 bombs were set off in Belfast.
July 31 1972 - Three car bombs in Claudy killed nine people.
Feb 22 1972 - A bomb at Aldershot army base in England killed seven civilians.
March 20 1972 - A car bomb in Donegall Street, Belfast, killed seven people.
August 22 1972-A bomb at the Customs House in Newry exploded prematurely, killing nine people including three IRA men.
June 12 1973 - Six people died when a bomb exploded in Coleraine.
February 4 1974 - 12 died when a remote controlled bomb exploded on a British Army bus in Yorkshire.
May 2 1974 - Six killed in a bomb attack on the Rose and Crown Bar on the Ormeau Road, in Belfast.
May 17 1974 - 33 people died when four bombs exploded in Dublin and Monaghan.
Nov 21 1974 - A bomb planted at a public bar in Birmingham killed 26 people.
