Deeply affected by Omagh atrocity
WILLIAM Thompson's second year as an MP coincided with one of the darkest hours for his West Tyrone constituency.
The Omagh bomb on August 15, 1998, killed 29 people and injured 220 others.
Mr Thompson was interviewed live on BBC l's Breakfast With Frost programme the morning after the atrocity.
Instead of recriminations, Mr Thompson showed no bitterness but instead shed tears for the innocent victims who had lost their lives for simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Ulster Unionist leader Tom Elliott said Mr Thompson was deeply moved and affected by the suffering inflicted on the people present in the town.
