Relatives call for Omagh tapes
RELATIVES of Omagh bomb victims are demanding that the Government releases any tape recordings of the Omagh bombers made by Government Communications Headquarters or PSNI to the court as their civil action resumes today. If evidence is not provided, they have instructed lawyers to issue subpoenas.
The calls followed revelations in a BBC Panorama documentary which claimed the British Government's security services have in their possession recordings of phone conversations by some of those who planned and carried out the Omagh bomb attack by the Real IRA on August 15, 1998.
Relatives, who mounted their civil prosecution on April 7, against those alleged to be responsible, want the Government to release the material, if it still exists, for use in these legal proceedings.
