COUNCIL BACKS OMAGH INQUIRY
Council backs Omagh inquiry
PLANS for a cross-border public inquiry into the Omagh bombing were last night unanimously endorsed by councillors in the town.
The victims' families hailed the move and now hope to meet Prime Minister Tony Blair to secure an independent probe into Northern Ireland's worst terrorist atrocity. Michael Gallagher, whose son was among the 29 people killed in the blast, said their case will be strengthened by the Omagh District Council vote, which was endorsed by the main parties. "It is very important that the start for the public inquiry is made here in Omagh,' he said.
