Honour for Omagh drama

THE powerful dramatisation of the Omagh tragedy won a BAFTA last night at Britain's largest television awards.
Omagh won in the Best Single Drama category at the British Academy Television Awards for its interpretation of the Real IRA attack on the Co Tyrone town in 1998 that killed 29 people.
The drama was shown on Channel 4 and was produced by Irish company Tiger Aspect Productions.
Omagh was directed by Peter Travis and had already been nominated for three Royal Television Society Awards and won the Discovery Award at last year's Toronto International Film Festival.
The other stars at the glamorous event were a little more predictable, with many of the favourites walking away with the awards.
Matt Lucas and David Walliams continued their phenomenal year by winning both Comedy Performance and Comedy Series for BBC show Little Britain.
Rhys Ifans was named best actor for the Channel 4 drama Not Only But Always - his portrayal of comic legend Peter Cooke.
Romanian actress Anamaria Marinca won best actress for her TV debut in Sex Traffic, the Channel 4 drama about Eastern Europeans being sold into prostitution in London.
Paul O'Grady won the award for entertainment performance for his new chat show The Paul O'Grady Show and, for the third year running, Coronation Street won the award for Continuing Drama.
Street star Bill Roache, who plays Ken Barlow, said: "The BAFTA is the big award, it's really nice to get it. Coronation Street is a big team soap, the stories have just been brilliant.
"Coronation Street knows how to balance comedy and tragedy without one killing the other. I like to think we set the pace."
Shameless, the Channel 4 drama set in a sink Manchester estate, won one of its two nominations for Drama Series.
