Omagh reception for 'movie star'
IT is not every day the Omagh District Council has a bona fide movie star in their midst but a reception was held for award-winning actor Gerard McSorley remedied that.
The winner of the Best Actor in this year's Irish Film and Television Awards, Omagh-born Mr McSorley was recently the guest of honour at a reception help in the district council offices.
He received his award for his portrayal of Michael Gallagher in the award-winning film Omagh.
Praising the Omagh actor, chairman Sean Clarke said: "It is particularly pleasing that despite your success you remain immensely proud of your roots, and your affinity with your hometown remains undiminished."
Mr McSorley was presented with an engraved print of the Ulster History Park, signed by artist Dermot Cavanagh.
