Omagh families' anger at DNA evidence delay
GARDA took 15 months to hand over vital DNA evidence concerning the Omagh bomb investigation, it emerged yesterday.
The Garda arrested Seamus McKenna and Seamus Daly - who were named in writs by families of the Omagh victims - on Real IRA membership charges in June 2003.
PSNI Assistant Chief Constable Sam Kincaid, within hours of the arrests, asked for the DNA samples of the two men to be sent to Northern Ireland to the inquiry team investigating the Real IRA bombing which killed 29 people in the biggest single United Kingdom terrorist atrocity.
It has now been learned that the requested DNA samples were only handed over to the inquiry team on Friday, October 22, 2004.
Yesterday, relatives of some of the dead expressed their fears that the investigation was becoming a "victim of the peace process".
