Top spot for Omagh film at Toronto
TWO films with strong local connections have won top awards at the Toronto Film Festival.
Omagh, the Channel 4 film directed by Pete Travis, won the critics' award voted for by journalists at the festival.
The film centres around the Gallagher family, the loss of their son Aiden and the founding of the Omagh Self help and Support Group. It is billed as "a subtle and delicate work that makes its points with a quiet rage and unflinching gaze."
A film directed by Belfast-born director Terry George has won the audience award.
Hotel Rwanda is based on the true story of hotel owner Paul Rusesabagina who provided a safe haven for the potential victims of genocide. He saved more than one thousand helpless Rwandans a decade ago.
