Relatives and friends recall Omagh dead

A LOW-KEY and dignified ceremony was held in Omagh yesterday to mark the sixth anniversary of the Troubles' worst atrocity.
An inter-Church service was held in the Omagh memorial garden to remember the 31 people who died in the Real IRA bomb attack on August 15, 1998.
The event was organised by relatives of those who were killed, following a decision by Omagh council to discontinue services it had staged for the previous five years.
A friend of Spanish youth leader Rocio Abad Ramos, who died in the bombing, joined in the service.
Also there was Ed Guiney, the producer of Omagh, a Channel Four drama about the bombing.
Irish transport minister Seamus Brennan and senior NIO official David Watkins were the only government representatives.
No-one has yet been charged with the Omagh bombing, although a number of the victims' families are pursuing a £10 million civil action against those they believe were responsible, including Michael McKevitt, the Real IRA leader who is in jail for directing terrorism.
