THE impact of the loss of life in the Omagh bomb and the commuter train terrorist at-tacks will be remembered in Madrid today as Tyrone's messages of condolence and floral art from the Petals of Hope project are handed over in a gesture of solidarity.
Student leaders Rocio Abad Ramos and Fernando Baselga, from Madrid, lost their lives in the Real IRA car bomb in Omagh which claimed the lives of 27 people in August 1998.
Two months ago, terrorist explosions on commuter trains in Madrid claimed more than 200 lives and injured more than 1,400 people.
Ulster Unionist chairman of Omagh District Council, Allan Rainey, will hand over the books of condolences and messages of sympathy offered by hundreds of people from Tyrone in an act of solidarity.
A floral art tribute from the Petals of Hope project born in the wake of the Omagh atrocity will also be presented to representatives from Madrid's regional government.
Works of art were created by Omagh's grieving community using the petals from flowers and wreaths laid at the scene of the bomb.
Three large format displays measuring 8ft by 4ft were constructed under the guidance of artist Carol Kane for communities in Omagh, Buncrana and Madrid.
