IRA spy attends Omagh bomb film screening
AN IRA double-agent at the centre of the Omagh bomb controversy emerged from hiding last night to attend a special screening of a new film version of the atrocity. The former spy, known as Kevin Fulton, joined relatives of some of the 29 victims at London's Leicester Square for the harrowing dramatisation. The families co-operated closely with the joint British/Irish production, entitled Omagh, by Guy Hibbert and Paul Greengrass.
Fulton, a former soldier who infiltrated the Provisional IRA, warned police 48 hours before the Real IRA strike that a dissident republican attack in Northern Ireland was imminent.
His information was crucial to police ombudsman Nuala O'Loan's scathing criticisms of how officers handled intelligence in the run-up to the August 1998 bombing.
Fulton has been living at a secret location in England as he continues a legal fight to force the Government to provide him with a security package he claims is vital to protect his life.
He said he was "very humbled" by what he had seen.
"There's people in the police and Government who should watch this film because it will open a lot of people's hearts," he said.
"Hopefully, after people see this they may come forward with information.
"For the first time I have seen things from the victims' perspective."
