Own up plea by Omagh dad
BERTIE Ahern has agreed to meet the father of a boy killed in the Omagh bombing, amid speculation that a new report will confirm that the Garda had information that could have helped prevent the atrocity.
The Taoiseach will hold talks on December 10 with Victor Barker, whose 12-year-old son, James, was killed in the 1998 Real IRA attack.
When they meet, it is expected that the Nally Report will have established claims that the Garda failed to act on or pass on relevant information to the RUC prior to the bomb - specifically that the Real IRA had got a car to transfer a bomb into Ulster.
Mr Barker said: "If a mistake was made, someone should come clean and admit it."
He added that he would be raising with Mr Ahern the actions of the Garda in dealing with intelligence information relating to planned Real IRA attacks in Northern Ireland in 1998 and "their apparent failure to properly advise the RUC of such likely attacks".
