OUTRAGE OVER RIRA SERVICE
Outrage over RIRA service
THE families of those killed in the Omagh bombing say they are furious about an Easter commemoration held in Londonderry yesterday by a political group linked to the RIRA.
The 32 County Sovereignty Movement held its Easter celebrations at Londonderry's cemetery yesterday afternoon, with Old Bailey bomber Marian Price invited along as the main speaker.
Stanley McCombe, whose wife was killed in the 1998 Omagh atrocity, condemned the event, which was organised to mark the 88th anniversary of the Easter Rising.
"I'm horrified and outraged this has been allowed to happen, and only 30 miles from Omagh," he said.
"It's time the Government and the PSNI made clear there's no room in society for people like this. But the question is why did the council allow this to happen?"
DUP deputy mayor Mildred Garfield said Derry City Council's permission had not been sought for ahead of the commemorations.
Police said an illegal republican parade took place in the Creggan area and passed off without serious incident.
A PSNI spokesman said that a file is currently being prepared for the DPP and the Parades Commission.
