NEW FUNDING FOR OMAGH RELATIVES
New funding for Omagh relatives
RELATIVES of those killed in the Omagh bomb have welcomed the release of funds by the Lord Chancellor, to enable them to proceed with a civil action against the alleged bombers.
The Omagh Victims' Support and Self-Help Group will receive more than �800,000 from the Northern Ireland Legal Services Commission.
The cash is being released under the Northern Ireland 'Access to Justice' Order and will be administered by legal firm H20.
Funding was initially pledged by Victims' Minister Jane Kennedy and Lord Filkin, Minister for Constitutional Affairs just before the fifth anniversary of the Real IRA car bomb.
Lord Filkin said the Government had decided to support the "exceptional case" of the relative's civil action through Legal Aid because ministers believed the collapse of the case was not in the interests of justice.
