Trimble to join Geldof in Omagh bid bash
By GEMMA MURRAY
FIRST Minister David Trimble is set to take the stage with Peter Mandelson and rock star Bob Geldof to raise cash for the Omagh families campaign for justice.
The unlikely trio will be guest speakers at a fund-raising dinner to raise funds to sue the Real IRA for damages over the Omagh bomb.
Bob Geldof- who brought the heartache in Ethiopia to our doorsteps - joined the campaign earlier this year.
Former Northern Ireland secretary Peter Mandelson has already pledged 10,000 he was paid in newspaper interviews to the families' fund
and Mr Trimble has been a constant supporter.
TV presenter Mariella Frostrup will host next month's 100-a-head dinner in Warrington, also the scene of an IRA attack in 1993 in which three-year-old Jonathon Ball and 12-year-old Tim Parry died.
The Omagh Victims Legal Trust now has until August to raise the 1.5 million needed to pursue a civil action against those they blame for planting the 500lb car bomb.
"The deadline is getting nearer and we still urgently need more money. It's wonderful that these people are prepared to help the families," said Jason McCue, the families' solicitor.
