Donna-Marie tops bravery poll
OMAGH bomb victim Donna-Marie McGillion has been honoured as one of the bravest women in Britain.
The 25-year-old mother was one of seven women selected by Best Magazine in a nationwide search to find women who make the world a better place.
Donna-Marie was given just a five per cent chance of living following a Real IRA bomb in her home town three years ago.
She suffered appalling injuries in the explosion, which killed 29 people and her fiancee's 21-month-old niece, and spent six weeks in a coma.
Despite her injuries, Donna-Marie fought back to marry just seven months later in the town's church.
Then, in August of this year, she gave birth to the couple's first daughter, Cara.
She faces years of painful surgery and is still traumatised by the events of the day.
Best editor Louise Court said: "This is the third year that Best has held these awards, and it still never fails to amaze us the sheer will, courage and strength that these women have demonstrated within their lives.
"They are an inspiration to us all and we are delighted to have been able to celebrate their bravery in the face of difficulty and I feel very honoured to have had the opportunity to feature them in Best."
