Bomb town 'into the light' for Christmas
A CAMPAIGN was launched yesterday to lift community spirits in Omagh in the run-up to Christmas.
The theme "Out of the Darkness, Into the Light" has been adopted for the month-long celebrations in recognition of the recovery process which many people in the town are still going through after the devastating August 15 bomb attack.
Omagh District Council marketing executive Jonathan McLaughlin said: "This will be the biggest Christmas celebrations we have had yet, but it is all being done in a dignified and respectful way.
"As the name suggests, Omagh is recognising that the tragedy happened but trying to move forward in a sensitive way."
A spectacular laser light show will follow the switch on of the Christmas lights by heart-throb crooner Daniel O'Donnell on November 26. There will be daily street entertainment, from clowns on unicycles and juggling magicians to the more traditional carol singers.
Organisers hope the initiative, supported by church, community and business leaders will help project a more positive image of Omagh as well as helping to restore, the confidence of the community.
