WORKERS SAY GIVE MACKEY THE BOOT

Workers say give Mackey the boot
EXCLUSIVE: JULIE O'CONNOR

WORKMATES of Omagh councillor Francie Mackey gave him a blunt message yesterday: "We want you out."
Just a day after he refused to resign from the council, staff at Tyrone Fermanagh Hospital, there Mr Mackey works as a psychiatric nurse, are demanding that management remove him from his post.
Mr Mackey is chairman of the 32-County Sovereignty Committee, the party linked to the Real IRA which carried out the Omagh bombing.
Speaking to the News Letter yesterday, a worker at the hospital told of the growing anger and resentment felt by those forced to work alongside him.
The worker, who did not want to be named, said: "Staff here, both Protestant and Catholic, are very uneasy about having to work with Francie Mackey.
"He has been off work since the bombing and has only returned this week. There's a good chance in the future that people will be admitted to this hospital as a result of the Omagh bombing due to mental trauma and stress.
"How can we possibly have a member of the 32-County Sovereignty working in the same ward as a person who has come to the hospital to be treated for the traumatic aftermath of the bombing?"
Tyrone Fermanagh Hospital is managed by the Sperrin Lakeland Trust. A spokesman said: "We can confirm that Francie Mackey is an employee of the Trust but we cannot comment any further on the matter". The News Letter was unable to reach Mr Mackey either at the hospital or his home.
