Music stars to sing at charity soccer match

ULSTER music stars Phil Coulter and Brian Kennedy are to sing two peace songs for the victims of the Omagh bombing atrocity tomorrow night.
They will perform before an 8,000 sell-out crowd at Londonderry's Brandywell stadium for a floodlit charity soccer match to raise money for the dependants of the Real IRA bombing which claimed the lives of 29 men, women and children and maimed and injured hundreds.
Relatives of those who died and members of the emergency services who were on duty that tragic day have been invited to the glamour game.
Pianist/composer Coulter, who is president of Derry City football club, and Belfast singer Kennedy will dedicate their performances to the memory of those who perished in Omagh on August 15.
Kennedy said yesterday: "I'm really looking forward to it. We are going to sing two songs before the match starts.
Hopefully some of the families will come, if they feel up to it, and the emergency services who worked so well on the day."
Some of the international soccer stars taking part in the match itself may join in the chorus.
Among them will be French heart throb David Ginola, who is now fronting Princess Diana's anti-landmine campaign.
The good-looking Tottenham Hotspur star, who was a BBC panellist during the 1998 World Cup, will be playing for a star-studded Derry City side against an eleven selected by Eire international team coach Mick McCarthy.
Scotland's Ally McCoist, who also now has his own Saturday night TV show as well as his Question of Sport appearances, and England and Manchester United ace Nicky Butt will also be playing in the Omagh fundraiser in Londonderry tomorrow night.
