Flanagan pledge on Omagh
RUC chief Ronnie Flanagan yesterday said he was confident the terrorists responsible for the Omagh bomb outrage would be caught.
Mr Flanagan made the prediction in Dublin where, for the first time, he shared a public platform with his Eire counterpart Pat Byrne. They were at a conference organised by business interests in an attempt to improve anti-crime measures.
Mr Flanagan was quizzed about efforts to track down the Real IRA breakaway republican paramilitary group that carried out August's Omagh bombing which massacred 29 people and injured more than 200 others.
He said: "The people of Ireland can be reassured about the level of co-operation between the RUC and the Garda Siochana. It could not be of a higher order.
"I have no doubt - though I will not speculate on a timescale - that we will bring the perpetrators to justice."
Three men held in Dundalk following a dawn raid on Wednesday were still being questioned by detectives last night.
The arrests were made under the terms of Eire's anti-terrorist legislation tightened after the Omagh attack. It means the three men can be kept in custody until later this week.
