Prisoner release advisor steps down

A director of the health trust which provides hospital services for Omagh has resigned from the body charged with overseeing the release of terrorist prisoners.
Sentence Review Commissioner David Bolton said his decision was based on humanitarian, rather than political reasons.
Mr Bolton, who is the director of Community Care and executive director of Social Work with the Sperrin Lakeland Health and Social Care Trust, has decided his place was with the people of Omagh at this time.
"Given the scale of the impact of the bombing on local people and the local community, the needs in the community will re-quire our attention for the foreseeable future.
Mr Bolton said he continued to support the work of the commission.
"I fully respect the decision of the electorate who voted in favour of the Good Friday Agreement and recognise the release of prisoners is, along with other elements, a key part of that Agreement."
The chairmen of the the Sentence Review Commission, Sir John Blelloch and Brian Currin, said that the body fully understood Mr Bolton's decision and recognised the contribution he had made.
