Pope prays for people of Omagh
POPE John Paul has sent a personal message to the people of Omagh, offering his prayers and the hope that peace will "blossom" in the
aftermath of Saturday's bombing.
In his message, sent in advance of today's memorial service in the shattered town, the Pope said he shared the shock and dismay felt by all good people at the violence shown towards the community just one week ago.
He said he would be spiritually close to those taking part in the emotional service, and that he would be offering his own prayers for the Province
"It is my ardent hope and prayer that the evil which has taken hold of the minds and hearts of those who planned and carried out this horrible attack on innocent and defenceless people, even children, will not prevail
"I am confident that the desire for peace so clearly manifested by the people of Northern Ireland will go on to blossom in courageous and all embracing initiatives of harmony, reconciliation and solidarity among all sections of the community."
