MANCHESTER United boss Sir Alex Ferguson watched his side trounch Omagh Town 9-0 and declared: "What at fantastic night for the people of Omagh.
"It was an honour for us to be here."
Town boss Roy McCreadie asked Ferguson's men to show their teeth and go for goals to give the fans a treat.
And Northern Ireland's favourite team responded in style with Teddy Sheringham bagging four goals before a packed 7,000 St Julian's Road crowd - the proceeds going to the Omagh appeal fund.
McCreadie said: "I probably asked for trouble, but the fans certainly enjoyed it. What a fantastic night for the town."
"Everyone had come out to enjoy themselves and did. It has all been so very worthwhile; it has even surpassed my wildest dreams.
"I was disappointed with my players' performances in the first half, but they improved a great deal in the second 45 minutes. However, it was all about Manchester United tonight."
"I am looking forward to a good night's sleep now and to get the players' feet back on the ground for the First Division promotion campaign which starts at Carrick Rangers on Saturday week."
Ferguson was delighted to see the return after injury of Republic of Ireland midfielder Roy Keane. He added: "It was very satisfying for us to get Gary Neville and Roy Keane back.
"The great thing about tonight was that there was a lot of kids here, probably seeing the United players for the first time.
"It was fantastic, really great what this small town has done. "Of course we recognise the support Ireland has given us over the years and we have had great players from this country, so for us to take part in something like this game tonight is a very proud moment for us."
United and Republic of Ireland defender Denis Irwin said: Everyone enjoyed the night.
"I don't get much opportunity to come up here, but it was for a very good cause."
Roy Keane said: "It was nice to come for such a good cause and I hope we have raised a good few pounds for the people of Omagh.
"Irish people always follow United and I hope it continues. I have a game tomorrow night against Wigan - it's all about improving my fitness."
Keane added there were no further developments on his new contract talks.
Four-goal Sheringham said: "We knew there were a few goals to be had. The fans were brilliant. They turned out in their thousands."
Adam Ingram the Northern Ireland Security Minister and Secretary of State Mo Mowlam's deputy, who sat in the director's box, said it had been a wonderful evening.
"It is a great credit to Omagh Town that they have been able to attract three big English clubs to the town" he said.
"We have seen exhibition football but it's a great tribute to the local team the way they have played too."
Ulster's former snooker world champion Alex Higgins was among the crowed and afterwards met Alex Ferguson and the United players.
