10 quizzed over Omagh car bomb massacre
DETECTIVES investigating the Omagh bomb outrage were last night continuing to question 10 men on both sides of the border.
The group was detained in a co-ordinated series of early morning swoops yesterday centred within a few square miles in Northern Ireland and the Republic.
The RUC came under attack when they carried out part of their operation in Jonesborough, Co Armagh.
Four of their officers sustained minor injuries when a party-going crowd, described by a police spokesman as "15 intoxicated and very aggressive people", used beer glasses, stones and sticks to assault the arresting officers.
Six of the suspects were held by gardai in Dundalk under the terms of anti-terrorist legislation, permitting suspects to be kept in custody for up to 72 hours before being either charged or released.
Sources said they were known-supporters of the Real IRA dissident terrorist faction responsible for last August's bombing in Omagh, when 29 people died and more than 200 were injured.
Four of the men picked up in the Republic were being held in Monaghan and the others in Cavan.
Police on both sides of the border have been involved in relentless inquiries since the car bomb caused one of the worst outrages of the Troubles.
So far one man, Co Armagh publican and building contractor Colm Murphy, 46, has been charged in connection with the attack. He was accused in a Dublin special court of conspiracy to cause an explosion and membership of an illegal organisation and is currently on bail awaiting trial.
