What a year! The sharp pain of the bereaved of Omagh and Ballymoney quickens the memory, just the emptying of the prisons rekindles the grief of so many over so many years.
But out of all that pain , something irresistibly new and hopeful was in the process of being born. The News Letter has chronicled it all, encouraging many, inspiring others, infuriating some - as a living newspaper in the heart of a community like ours must invariably do.
We thank all our readers, those who rang or wrote to support, criticise or simply to participate in the history-making debates and events.
We have all, staff and readers, earned a happy and a peaceful Christmas holiday, with the lively hope for an even better New Year.
