Roman Catholics must share the blame
I AGREE with much of Peter Rosner's letter of August 18.
As he points out it is obvious that the Roman Catholic community has either supported, or turned a blind eye to Republican terrorism.
Sixteen per cent of them voted for parties associated with terrorist activity, compared to two-three per cent of Protestant support for their paramilitaries.
As he points out, terrorists have friends, wives, mothers etc. who are well aware of their murderous activities.
What he may not realise is that it is not in their nature to report such things to the authorities.
I disagree with the end of his letter where he plans to boycott Northern Ireland, but will visit the Republic of Ireland. Does he not realise that it was the Republic's territorial claims that provided the incentive for 28 years of terrorism?
Omagh is just the latest carnage along with La Mon, Bloody Friday, Enniskillen, Shankill Road, Darkley Church massacre etc. etc. - years of bombing, maiming and murder; now there are nearly 4,000 of a death toll.
Terrorists are often citizens of the 26 counties where training grounds and financial support is provided.
Much of their weaponry is also American financed and supplied.
Sinn Fein/IRA is the wealthiest political/paramilitary party in the British Isles, because of Irish American support -would they claim to have no knowledge of where, and to what use their funds are being put? - they must know, I don't believe they don't. Everyone has known for years.
From British and Dublin minister we have heard how terrorists will be ruthlessly pursued and punished - does anyone really believe that, or realistically hope that after the Omagh carnage that things will be any different in the future?
Anti-British history has been well taught to the young who honestly believe they and they alone are the native Irish.
We have the stories of 800 years of domination; conveniently forgetting that it was the Pope of the day who sent Henry II to subdue Ireland for Rome and destroy the early Celtic church founded by St Patrick - another Holy War!
