Doctor appeals for blood
A LONDONDERRY hospital consultant yesterday made an urgent appeal for more people to donate blood as the fight to heal Omagh bomb survivors continues.
Dr Mary Ryan, Altnagelvin Hospital's consultant haemotologist, who organised blood supplies at the hospital last Saturday, urged donors to give blood.
She said that those donors who recently came forward had undoubtedly saved lives after Saturday's blast.
Dr Ryan said that cross-border co-operation in the hours after the bombing had played a vital role in ensuring the effectiveness of the emergency plan.
Half of Altnagelvin's blood stock was despatched to Tyrone County Hospital as the casualty toll continued to mount.
She said that there is still a great need for blood donations and that the Blood Transfusion Service was working flat out to replenish supplies.
