UK Unionist leader Robert McCartney has claimed the atrocity in Omagh is a direct result of the "appeasement of IRA terrorism under the Belfast Agreement endorsed by the Ulster Unionist Party".
He said: The mass release of terrorist criminals as a central part of the Belfast Agreement is a clear signal to the IRA that the Government of the United Kingdom is willing to capitulate totally to republican demands.
"This capitulation is also facilitated by the fiction sustained by Mo Mowlam that recent outrages such as the bomb at Banbridge were the
Mayor. He was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister David Andrews.
Mr Ahern said a meeting between security chiefs, the work of so-called 'dissident republicans' operating independently of the IRA when in fact such activity would not be possible without the approval and resources of the IRA."
He claimed it was entirely predictable that the Prime Minister and Secretary of State would claim that the Omagh bomb was an attempt to bring down the peace process.
"The real purpose of the Omagh bomb is to accelerate the concessions to republican terrorism which form the substance of the so-called peace process," he said.
"The charade of the so-called peace process must now stop and the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State must take full responsibility for a policy of appeasement which feeds the insatiable demands of the IRA."
Mr McCartney said the visit of Bill Clinton (on September 3) would be entirely out of place. He accused the US President's administration of condemning terrorism when directed against the citizens of the US but at the same time feting in the Whitehouse the "representatives of the republican terrorism responsible for the death and carnage at Omagh."
