LAGAN Valley MP Jeffrey Donaldson has called on Secretary of State Mo Mowlam to immediately halt the release of terrorist prisoners until such times as there is a proper commitment to peace, through the ending of all violence and the effective decommissioning of all illegal weaponry.
The Ulster Unionist politician said "slaughter of the innocents" in Omagh on Saturday was the inevitable consequence of a sickening catalogue of Government concessions to terrorists, both republican and loyalist.
"Tragically, the people of Omagh have had to suffer grievously for Government's willingness to appease terrorists and their failure to initiate security measures which would adequately counter the designs of the evil men and women who plan indiscriminate bomb attacks on our cities and towns," said Mr Donaldson.
"Many questions need to be asked about this latest terrible atrocity: Did the people who perpetrated this deed have the assistance of the Provisional IRA? Do they have access to arsenals and explosives caches owned by the Provisional IRA? Are they getting technical bomb-making expertise from the Provisional IRA?
He said that the release of terrorist prisoners must be halted until there are clear statements, in unequivocal terms, that their campaigns of terrorism are over for good.
