A LAMENT FROM WHERE THE RIVERS MEET
A Lament from where the rivers meet
The rivers that water the town of Omagh have always delighted to gather our sounds into their friendly flow. The happy, caring conversations of streets and corners have mingled in their currents just as they themselves are mingled and flow on as one. The waters shuddered as the invading sound of murderous death ripped across them in August. Since then they have soothingly lapped a town gone quiet in its grief.
We have humbly asked those for whom grief is greatest to tell us a little of the loveliness of those they lost, perhaps something that they said in life or something that can be said about them. It has been a sore request, tearing again at the heart. For some a response has been impossible, their pain and grieving is so intense. Reverend Ian Mairs, Reverend Derek Quinn, Mr. Ken Thompson, Father Shane Bradley, Miss Sinead McLaughlin have gently helped to gather the words that did come.
May the waters carry these precious memories in their flow and bear them as a sweet song of sadness through the generations still to come.
