Accused unmoved as bomb details recounted
The south Armagh man accused of murdering 29 people sat seemingly impassively in the dock of Belfast Crown Court yesterday as a succession of policemen described the scenes of carnage in the aftermath of the Omagh bomb.
Sean Hoey, who is charged with the 29 murders and a further 29 terrorist-related charges, showed no emotion as officers gave harrowing details from the Omagh bomb which exploded on the afternoon of August 15th, 1998.
Const Alan Palmer, who received a back wound which required 27 stitches, described the pandemonium. He recalled how he saw a man jump into the crater left by the bomb in an effort to find a child missing from a buggy lying in the street.
