OMAGH HORROR STILL HARD TO UNDERSTAND

Omagh horror still hard to understand

ALMOST 10 years on from the day the Omagh bomb ended so many lives and changed forever so many others, it is still impossible to understand the depth of suffering experienced by those families who lost loved ones that August 15 afternoon.
All too often the story of 'the Troubles' is reduced to a set of numbers. Thousands killed and many more injured. But behind the numbers are real people. Some of them are people experiencing the pain of actions carried out before they were born, like the little boy who wishes he had met his big brother instead of having just photos of him.
There are many similar heartbreaking stories connected not just with Omagh but with all the deaths of the Troubles.
Despite that, there are still people out there who would carry on using bomb and bullet for their various 'causes'.
They should read the words of those who suffered so greatly on August 15 1998 and then ask themselves if any cause is worth so much heartbreak.
