OMAGH TEEN TALKS TO MAN OF PEACE

Omagh teen talks to man of peace

A TEENAGER whose baby sister, pregnant mother and grandmother were all killed in the Omagh bomb met the Dalai Lama yesterday. Aoibheann Monaghan lost her mother Avrll Monaghan, 18-month-old sister Maura and grandmother Mary Grimes in the 1998 Real IRA atrocity. Speaking after their short meeting in Dublin the Dalai Lama said the 18-year-old had sadness written on her face -but no sign of anger or hate".
Ireland was a small nation but had produced great people he said. The teenager's mother was heavily pregnant with twins and had gone Into Omagh on August 15 1998 with her young daughter and mother who was celebrating her birthday that day.
Mrs Grimes was a mother of 12 and lived with her husband near Beragh in Co Tyrone, while the Monaghans lived in Aughadarra.
