Omagh case man treated after beating
A MAN being sued by families of victims of the Omagh bombing has been treated in hospital after being attacked last week. Seamus Daly (38), pictured right, was treated for his injuries after being attacked by a group of men in Carrickmacross in Co Monaghan on Friday. In November 2000 he was arrested in connection with dissident republican activity.
He was charged In February 2003 with being a member of an unlawful organisation styling itself the Real IRA.
Daly pleaded guilty in 2004 at Dublin Special Criminal Court to membership of the Real IRA.
He is one of five men - Including Michael McKevitt and Liam Campbell - named in a civil case brought by some of the Omagh bombing victims' families. It was claimed previously that Daly had driven a scout car used in the planning of the Real IRA bombing which claimed the lives of 29 people including a woman pregnant with twins in 1998. Judgment in the Omagh civil case is expected to be delivered next week. Daly was not thought to have been seriously injured in the weekend assault. Yesterday gardai were still investigating the circumstances.
