Omagh case could now stretch into the autumn

A LANDMARK civil action against five men blamed for the Omagh bomb atrocity is set to stretch into the autumn, it emerged yesterday.
And an extra week of hearings are also being planned in Dublin in an effort to complete all the evidence from Garda witnesses.
The multi-million pound compensation case was expected to finish before the High Court in Belfast goes into recess at the end of June, with judgment delivered later.
But Mr Justice Morgan was told yesterday it was unlikely that the schedule would be met.
With no calls from either side to take the unusual step of sitting during the summer, the judge indicated his new plan was to resume in September.
Legal sources later suggested it could then take several weeks to finalise submissions. Relatives of some of the 29 people killed in the August 1998 Real IRA attack, Northern Ireland's single worst terrorist massacre, have brought the case against the men they hold responsible.
They are suing Michael McKevitt, Liam Campbell, Seamus McKenna, Colm Murphy and Seamus Daly in an unprecedented claim for damages. All five deny liability.
The case was adjourned.
