DETECTIVES ran up a bill of �16m on international expertise they hoped would help catch the bombers. Images of potential suspects crossing the border on the day of the attack were sent to the FBI Academy at Quantico, Virginia. Police consulted scientists in New York, Toronto, Canada and Switzerland. About �1 million was spent on forensics, with staff costs which ran to around �15m.
