Omagh victim's dad at summit
THE father of an Omagh bomb victim is to speak at an international terrorism summit in the US. Michael Gallagher, whose son Aiden was killed in the August 1998 Real IRA atrocity which also killed 28 other people including a woman pregnant with twins, will travel to Washington DC next week for the conference. The event, titled Overcoming Extremism: Protecting Civilians from Terrorist Violence, takes place on Monday and Tuesday. It is part of the post-conflict reconstruction project at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies. Launched at the height of the Cold War, the centre has become a leading public policy institution on US and international security. The conference will feature top scholars, civil society leaders, lawyers, journalists and government and military officials.
They will examine government responses to changes in international humanitarian law and the best way to protect civilians.
