Omagh issues raised
NUMBER of issues linked to a multi-million-pound compensation case launched by families of those killed and injured in the Omagh bomb have been aired at Belfast's High Court.
Five men are being sued by families of those murdered and maimed in the 1998 Real IRA bomb which claimed the lives of 29 people, including a woman pregnant with twins.
The men are Michael McKevitt (55) from Blackrock in Co Louth, Colm Murphy (55) from Ravensdale in Co Louth, Liam Campbell (42) from Mount Pleasant, Dundalk, Seamus Daly (37), from Culloville in Co Monaghan and Seamus McKenna (53) from Silverbridge, Co Armagh.
Amongst the issues raised during yesterday's hearing was whether or not 39 Garda officers, due to be called as witnesses, will travel to Northern Ireland to give evidence.
Also discussed was the reliance which will be placed on a conviction secured against McKevitt who is serving a 20-year sentence in Portlaoise jail for running the Real IRA following a trial held at Dublin's Special Criminal Court.
