Omagh bombing website launched

DIGITAL archive on the Omagh bombing has been launched in Co Tyrone.
The humanitarian and former Beirut hostage Terry Waite launched the website yesterday in the town library.
"People from all backgrounds were maimed, wounded and scarred by the terrible events in Omagh," he said.
"I don't think you should forget it. It is important for every generation that they understand what has happened in the past.
"Perhaps we can learn from the past but regrettably we rarely do - but at least this is an attempt in Omagh to record the past."
The website was developed by the Western Education and Library Board's Library Service and the Omagh Support and Self-Help Group.
It was funded by the Victims Strategy Implementation Fund.
The site is based on newspaper articles, books of condolences and emails relating to the bombing on August 15 1998, in which 29 people died, including a woman pregnant with twins.
Support group chairman Michael Gallagher, whose son Aiden (21) died in the blast, said: "We believe that this is a very significant archive because it is the first collaborative venture between a victims group and a statutory body that we have got involved in.
"We hope that it will not only be beneficial to people in Omagh but also nationally and internationally."
