Omagh bomb accused will stand trial
JUDGE declared yesterday that the alleged Omagh bomber Sean Hoey does have a case to answer and should stand trial in September.
Refusing defence applications for 'no case to answer', Belfast Crown Court judge Mr Justice Weir said having carefully considered all the material before him, he was satisfied that Hoey should be sent for trial.
After the short judgement, the 36-year-old electrician, from Molly Road in Jonesborough, south Armagh, pleaded not guilty to 29 counts of murder in relation to the Real IRA atrocity in Omagh in August 1998. Hoey also entered not guilty pleas in relation to possessing the bomb, causing the explosion and in respect of a series of other attacks carried out in Northern Ireland including charges of conspiring to murder members of the security forces.
