MAN CHARGED WITH PROVIDING CAR TO PLANT OMAGH BOMB
Man charged with providing car to plant Omagh bomb
A 34-YEAR-OLD man is to appear in court today charged with providing the car used to plant the Real IRA bomb in Omagh in 1998.
Detectives investigating the bombing charged the man, who is from Dundalk, with providing property of use to terrorists.
The charge states that between August 11 and 16 1998 he supplied the maroon Vauxhall Cavalier which exploded in Omagh killing 29 people including a woman pregnant with twins.
The man, who was arrested in Newry on Monday, is expected to appear at Enniskillen Magistrates Court.
Meanwhile, five people appeared in court in Co Antrim yesterday charged with Real IRA membership and possession of explosives.
All five were arrested after three incendiary devices were discovered at a house in Fisherwick Gardens in Ballymena on Saturday.
Noisy supporters of the five were cleared from a packed courtroom after cheering and applauding the first suspect into the dock.
The court was told that when charged the accused either made no reply or denied the allegations.
The accused, all from Ballymena, are Anthony Martin Lee (29) an unemployed baker from Fisherwick Crescent, Pearse O'Neill (22) unemployed of Deramore Crescent and Christopher Smiley (20), also unemployed, from Dunclug Park.
Also appearing before the court were Liam Lyness (20), a butcher of Fisherwick Crescent and Simone Sloan (22), a dental nurse from Fisherwick Gardens.
Some of the five shouted republican slogans as they were being led out of the court. They were remanded in custody to appear again via video link on March 3.
