Omagh's struggle on CD-Rom

AN INTERACTIVE archive focusing on the Omagh bomb and its aftermath was launched in Omagh last night.
Former hostage Terry Waite attended the launch of the new CD-Rom One Day in August at the town's library.
The CD is a historical record of the 1998 Real IRA atrocity - which killed 29 people, including two unborn babies - and the year that followed. The project was developed by the Library Service with assistance from the Sperrin Lakeland Trust and Omagh District Council.
Much of the material is from local and provincial papers but it also covers articles from India, Japan and Norway as well as photographs and video recordings from various TV stations.
Assistant chief librarian Rosemary Adams said a CD-Rom was the only way that so much material could be made accessible to the public.
"It's not easy viewing and it wasn't easy to work on but I believe that a spirit of hope shines through," she said.
"It covers the bomb and the events afterwards which helped bring the community together and start the healing process. It isn't all darkness - there is optimism too as people found hope again."
Ms Adams said those affected by the bomb had already viewed the CD-Rom, which is not for sale and intended only as an information resource.
The CD-Rom will be available in libraries and schools in the Western Board area.
