SOLIDARITY MESSAGE FOR PEOPLE OF SPAIN
Solidarity message for people of Spain

REPRESENTATIVES from Omagh and Buncrana took a message of sympathy and solidarity to the people of Spain on Friday night when they attended a memorial mass in Madrid for the victims of the Omagh bomb.
Twelve-year-old Fernando Blasco and his teacher Rocio Abad Ramos (23) were among the 29 killed in the blast on August 15, after visiting the town as part of a school-trip to Buncrana.
Another 12 young Spaniards were injured, four seriously.
Among those attending the memorial mass were relatives of the victims, families from Buncrana who hosted the Spanish young people and leading figures from both Omagh and Buncrana.
The Spanish have pledged to continue their links with Buncrana and run further visits for young people to improve their English.
Omagh District Council chairman Sean Clarke described the visit to Spain as "poignant and emotion-filled".
"We brought with us a very direct message of ongoing sympathy and solidarity from the people of Omagh to those Spanish people who shared in the terrible tragedy of the Omagh bomb.
"I will long remember the humbling experience of standing alongside the relatives of the Spanish people who were killed or injured in the bomb.
The people of Omagh, Madrid and Buncrana have now a strong cement to keep us together, strong bonds have been consolidated and I fervently hope that we can bind closer together in the future."
