CANCELLED STORYTELLERS WEEKEND RESCHEDULED

The storytellers weekend which was cancelled because of the Omagh bomb now takes place in the Ulster American Folk Museum, Omagh over the weekend of October 24-25.
Storytellers from all over Ireland and a native American will be entertaining people with monologues, recitations, stories of Scotland and Ireland on the Saturday. That night there will be a concert with Colm Sands.
Any money raised will go towards the Omagh Fund.
Liz Weir, the organiser, tells me that it's a chance for families to hear some of the art of storytelling with such notables as Patsy O'Hagan, the bard of Armagh, and a chance to bring people together.
Next Wednesday Mullaghbawn's Mick Quinn will be the guest in the Old Museum - 8pm and a new group of yarn spinners has started in the Newry/ Warrenpoint district.
The age-old storytelling tradition is now very much to the fore with such notables as Mullaghbawn's John Campbell who entertained last weekend in the newly opened Ti Chulann in Mullaghbawn where he was joined by Gene Carroll who is an authority on the life and work of Monaghan's most famous son Patrick Kavanagh. The Ti Chulann Heritage Centre which opened last week has a full programme of events right up to the end of the year with the now famous Scoil Shliabh gCuillinn Winter School next month.
