GAA HAS MISSED THE SPIRIT OF OMAGH
GAA has missed the spirit of Omagh
I was bitterly disappointed with the GAA's decision not to donate the St Enda's pitch for the soccer match proposed in the near future (proceeds going to the Omagh fund).
As a life-long member of the GAA and up to now still playing, I regard this pitch as our pitch, not the property of a few stick-in-the-mud officials with not one progressive thought between them.
I believe it is not the proposed millions raised by individual GAA club activities throughout Ireland that is the central issue here, but the failure of the GAA to enter into the absolute spirit of willingness to help, in whatever way it can.
I am of the opinion that the GAA should recognise the Omagh situation for what it is, and donate its pitch with enthusiasm.
Lastly, I am the father of four young sons, and would have up-to-now encouraged them in the uptake of Gaelic football.
I now have grave misgivings in directing them into such an organisation.
