Bomb victim's emotional walk down wedding aisle
AN Omagh bomb victim made an emotional walk down the aisle after a 14-month battle to overcome leg injuries suffered in the blast.
Kate Kelly (27) finally celebrated her wedding day last Saturday despite fears she might never walk again.
She was to have married Brian Mulcahy in September last year, but was still in hospital after the bombing.
The atrocity claimed by the Real IRA killed 29 and injured hundreds more, including Kate and her bridesmaid and close friend Rachel Davies.
The pair had been looking for wedding shoes at the scene of the blast and both suffered horrific shrapnel injuries to their legs.
Doctors warned Kate had only a 50 per cent chance of walking again after a nerve was severed in her thigh and she lost movement in her one foot.
But, determined to be married without the aid of crutches, she finally realised her dream on Saturday.
She walked down the aisle on the arm of her proud father in Omagh's Sacred Heart Church, with bridesmaid Rachel in support with the aid of a crutch.
Leaving the church, the beaming bride said: "I was determined that I would walk down that aisle on my own.
"There was a lot of pain and tears but I always had something to aim for."
