OMAGH PEOPLE DESERVE PRAISE
Omagh people deserve praise
THE people of Omagh - and particularly those bereaved and injured - have endured a painful year since that terrible day when their town and their lives were shattered.
The anguish and grief borne by the relatives of the 29 people killed by that horrific bomb on August 15, and the suffering of the many injured, will never really be known by those of us on the outside.
As the anniversary approaches, they are bracing themselves for the attention of the world's media to be turned on them again.
But Omagh has been in the news throughout the past year. Thankfully, much of that focus has reflected positive events in the town, such as last night's much-anticipated match between Omagh Town and the most famous football team in the world, Manchester United.
Their presence in the town has brought a huge amount of pleasure. The fact that they, and many others, from football clubs to pop stars, have shown their support for the people of the town and helped to bolster the Omagh Fund, is welcomed by everyone.
The people of Omagh must also be praised for their generosity of spirit in embracing all those who wish to help in any way.
They are an example to us all.
